Justin delivers the first draft of the house floor plan on Friday Jan 18th.
We agree to meet on Saturday in Richmond Hill to review and refine the plan.
Before the meeting I trace the house plan on a large lined sheet of paper (scale: 1 foot per inch).
I use scaled cardboard shapes of the furniture and appliances to work-out a better layout. It feels like playing with a doll house, but it is a must if I want to validate that it will all fit.
Overall, the initial plan that Justin created is good and I really like it but I need 3 fairly minor design changes:
. Increase the storage space on the back side of the house
. Completely modify the kitchen layout. (Either he does not spend much in his kitchen or I have some weird taste in kitchen layout, but we were far apart on that one)
. Move a few doors around and add one double door to the living room.
I discuss the changes with Justin and we agree to modify the plan accordingly.
This brings the living space to just under 1,500 Sq. ft.
We also discuss and make some technical decisions regarding the roof design etc… and we are both happy with the consensus.
. For him to go back to the drawing board (or computer) to update the plans and start doing the detailed technical design.
. For me to celebrate the milestone achievement and prepare my next blog publication.
I am reorganizing this site a little:
. I am planning to publish quite a lot of technical information (without conflicting with Justin’s copyrights). I need to be able to structure that info so it can be accessible and re-useable. I am going to try using another blog page structure to do that and we will see how that works.
. I also saved one page on the site by moving the contact form to the home page.
. Visit the new page “Phil’s Technical Info”
Another good thing done: I just acquired a 4500W Homelite portable generator for a good price. It is second hand but brand new; the previous user never put gas into it yet.
Of course, since the night temperature is in the -15 to -25C around here, I guess it must be around -20 to -30C in Bancroft, so no question of going camping on site, even in a trailer.
